Abstract

Illegal drug use is a serious problem in many communities in the Philippines, especially among the youth who are vulnerable to negative influences. The Bola Kontra Droga (BKD) program encourages young people to join sports and community activities that promote discipline and awareness about the dangers of illegal drugs. In Barangay Fairview, District 5, Quezon City, this study evaluates the program’s impact on increasing drug awareness, encouraging youth participation, and promoting a drug-free lifestyle. This study used a descriptive quantitative research design to examine the impact of the Bola Kontra Droga (BKD) program on youth in Barangay Fairview, District 5, Quezon City. A total of 50 respondents were selected using purposive sampling, including residents, barangay personnel, and youth participants familiar with the program. Data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire to assess the respondents’ profile and the program’s effectiveness in terms of drug awareness, youth participation in sports, and community support. The data were analyzed using frequency and percentage, weighted mean, and ANOVA to interpret the results. The results showed that the Bola Kontra Droga (BKD) program helped increase youth awareness about the dangers of illegal drugs and encouraged participation in sports and community activities. These activities promoted discipline, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle. Support from barangay officials and the community also helped the program succeed. However, some challenges such as limited resources and occasional low youth participation were identified. The findings show that community-based programs like Bola Kontra Droga (BKD) help address drug issues among the youth by encouraging participation in sports and positive activities. The program increases awareness about the dangers of illegal drugs while promoting discipline, teamwork, and confidence among young people. However, challenges such as limited resources and inconsistent participation may affect its sustainability. Strong cooperation among barangay officials, parents, and the community is important to further strengthen the program and support youth development.
