Abstract

Road safety is a major issue that affects everyone in the community. Many accidents happen because people do not follow traffic rules or are unaware of safety laws. This study focuses on Barangay Iba, Meycauayan, Bulacan, to see how much local residents truly know and do to stay safe on the road. By looking at people’s knowledge, attitudes, and daily habits, the research identifies why accidents still occur despite high awareness. Understanding these factors is important for creating better safety programs. To conduct this study, the researchers used a descriptive research method and a quantitative approach to collect and analyze data. This choice allowed the team to measure the exact levels of knowledge, attitudes, and practices of the residents regarding road safety. The study focused specifically on Barangay Iba in Meycauayan, Bulacan, to understand the local situation. A purposive sampling technique was used to select fifty specific respondents who were regular road users in the community. These participants were given survey questionnaires designed to gather numerical data on their understanding of traffic laws and their daily safety habits. The survey also collected demographic information, such as age, gender, education level, and years of experience on the road, to see if these factors influenced their awareness. After the respondents completed the surveys, the researchers calculated the weighted mean for each category to interpret the results accurately. This statistical method helped identify whether residents "Strongly Agreed" or disagreed with various safety statements.. The study indicates that residents in Barangay Iba have a very strong understanding and positive attitude toward road safety regulations. However, their actual daily practices scored slightly lower, meaning they do not always follow the rules they know. A major profile finding was that most respondents were experienced male drivers with college backgrounds. The study indicates that while the people of Barangay Iba know road rules and want to stay safe, they don't always follow through with their actions. There is a "gap" between what they believe and what they actually do on the road. The biggest hurdle is not a lack of education, but rather a lack of understanding of specific, detailed traffic laws. This suggests that general warnings aren't enough. To improve safety, the community needs emotional, real-life examples and better communication from local leaders.
