Abstract

This research is entitled Reducing localize crime through community engagement strategies among residents in Barangay San Agustin, Novaliches, Quezon City. To assess the role of collaboration between residents, barangay officials, police officers, schools and other community-based partners in sustaining peace and order. The study stressed that joint responsibility, active participation and cooperation are vital in communal crime prevention. Based on Lanfear’s (2022) Collective Efficacy Theory, this research analyses the impact of social cohesion, trust and a sense of shared responsibility on crime reduction and community safety among citizens. The study is a descriptive research design and collects data through a survey questionnaire to 100 respondents consist of barangay officials, police officers, homeowner’s of said barangay, youth, teacher and parents. The respondents were selected using purposive sampling so as to capture those actively involved in or have vested interest in community safety programs. data were analyzed using frequency, percentage and average weighted mean which is interpreted through a five-point Likert scale. The study found that community engagement strategies in Barangay San Agustin are supported by a mature and educated community. School-based programs were the most effective strategy in promoting safety awareness. There was also a strong agreement among all groups about the effectiveness of these strategies, but operational inconsistencies remain a challenge in fully maximizing their impact. The study found that community engagement strategies help reduce localized crime in Barangay San Agustin. Residents strongly agreed that neighborhood participation, school-based programs, and the use of technology are effective in improving community safety. Police–community collaboration was also considered important, although stronger communication and visibility are still needed. However, some challenges were identified, such as irregular implementation of programs, limited coordination, and lack of participation from some residents. Overall, cooperation among residents, barangay officials, police, schools, and the use of technology is essential in maintaining peace and order in the community.
