Abstract

This study aimed to assess the level of awareness on the implementation of the Barangay Protection Order (BPO) in Batasan Hills, Quezon City. Specifically, it examined respondents’ awareness in terms of BPO provisions, enforcement, and relief measures, as well as the influence of demographic variables on their level of awareness. A quantitative research design was used in the study. Data were gathered from residents of Batasan Hills through a structured survey questionnaire. Statistical analysis was conducted to determine differences in awareness levels when respondents were grouped according to demographic variables such as age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, and length of residency. Findings revealed that respondents generally demonstrated a high level of awareness regarding the implementation of the Barangay Protection Order. The majority of participants were adults aged 30 years and above, predominantly female, either single or married, long-term residents, and with at least secondary or tertiary educational attainment. Statistical analysis showed that age, sex, and civil status did not significantly influence the level of awareness. However, significant differences were observed when respondents were grouped according to highest educational attainment and length of residency. This indicates that education and prolonged community exposure contribute to a deeper understanding of specific BPO provisions, particularly awareness and relief measures. Despite the high level of awareness, challenges affecting BPO implementation were identified, including informational gaps, socio-cultural norms, stigma associated with reporting domestic violence, and fear of retaliation. Limited access to barangay officials was the least concern among respondents. The study concludes that while awareness of the Barangay Protection Order in Batasan Hills is generally high, socio-cultural and informational barriers continue to hinder its full implementation. Educational attainment and length of residency play significant roles in shaping awareness levels, emphasizing the importance of sustained community engagement and education. The study recommends strengthening information dissemination campaigns, conducting targeted educational interventions, addressing socio-cultural barriers through community engagement, and enhancing capacity-building programs for barangay officials to ensure more effective and inclusive implementation of the BPO.
