Abstract

This study assessed the Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit in terms of public safety, crime reduction, and immediate response in streets of Barangay Gulod, Quezon City, addressing the limited empirical evidence on motorcycle-based patrol units in urban communities were crime often takes place. The study aimed to assess the perceived effectiveness of the TMRU in terms of public safety, crime reduction, and immediate response, and to determine whether significant differences exist in respondents’ assessments when grouped according to age, sex, years of residency, and years of service. This research used a quantitative method specifically Descriptive Research Design to assess the variables of the research Assessment of the Patrolling Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit in Streets of Barangay Gulod Quezon City. According to Misa (2025), “Descriptive research is a methodological approach that focuses on systematically observing and measuring characteristics of a population or phenomenon without manipulating any variables”. The researchers used descriptive research design in gathering the needed data for them to analyze the Patrolling Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit in Streets of Barangay Gulod Quezon City. This study used a descriptive-quantitative research design. The participants of this study are fifty (50) respondents composed of community residents and TMRU officers, with frequency distribution and statistical tests used to analyze variations across demographic variables. Findings revealed that the TMRU is generally perceived as effective in maintaining peace and order, public safety, reducing crime, and providing immediate response, largely due to its visibility, mobility, and ability to maneuver through traffic and narrow streets. Age showed a statistically significant difference only in the assessment of crime reduction, while public safety, immediate response have no significant differences were observed in, or overall effectiveness when respondents were grouped by sex, years of residency, and years of service. The most encountered problem identified was the lack of adequate physical protection for TMRU personnel, which increases their vulnerability during patrol operations. This study concludes that the TMRU is highly effective in community policing and rapid response overall.
