Abstract

This study evaluated the efficacy of education-based drug prevention programs in Barangay Baesa, Quezon City. It specifically assessed the effectiveness of school-based education, peer influence/support, community outreach, and mental health support. Additionally, the research identified implementation challenges and proposed enhancements to improve program outcomes. The study used a quantitative descriptive research design. Data were collected via a researcher-developed questionnaire from fifty (50) respondents, including ten (10) barangay officials, ten (10) students, and thirty (30) residents. Statistical analysis was conducted using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Findings indicated that respondents generally viewed the programs as effective in increasing drug awareness and knowledge. Among the indicators, school-based drug education programs showed a significant difference in assessment across respondent groups, whereas other indicators did not. Major implementation hurdles identified were limited family involvement, insufficient anti-peer pressure campaigns, a lack of continuous training, and low parental participation. The study concludes that while education-based programs effectively promote drug awareness and preventive behaviors, there is room for growth. To ensure long-term effectiveness, it is recommended to strengthen family involvement, sustain capacity-building activities for officials, and enhance overall community participation.
