Abstract

This study evaluated the impact of traffic enforcement on road safety in Novaliches, Quezon City. Specifically, it sought to determine the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, highest educational attainment, and years of driving experience or length of service; assess the impact of traffic enforcement on road safety in terms of compliance impact among drivers and pedestrians and community engagement among commuters, including its deterrent effect; identify significant differences in the respondents’ assessments based on the aforementioned variables; determine the challenges encountered affecting traffic enforcement; and propose recommendations to improve traffic enforcement and road safety awareness. The research focused on the intersection of regulatory authority and public behavior within the local context. A quantitative research design was employed, involving seventy (70) respondents composed of ten (10) pedestrians, ten (10) commuters, forty (40) drivers, and ten (10) Traffic and Transport Management Department (TTMD) traffic enforcers in Novaliches, Quezon City. Data were gathered through a structured survey questionnaire and analyzed using appropriate statistical tools. This rigorous methodological approach ensured a comprehensive representation of both the enforcers and the diverse end-users of the local road network. The findings revealed that traffic enforcement has a significant impact on road safety, particularly in promoting compliance among drivers and pedestrians and enhancing community engagement. This underscores the vital role of the TTMD in maintaining order along the high-volume corridors of Quezon City. Despite these positive effects, challenges such as inconsistent enforcement, limited resources, environmental constraints, and noncompliance of some road users were identified as factors affecting effective traffic enforcement. Such obstacles often hinder the seamless implementation of local ordinances and national traffic laws. The study concludes that consistent and strengthened traffic enforcement is essential for safer roads. It recommends enhancing enforcement strategies, intensifying road safety awareness programs, and fostering stronger collaboration between authorities and the community to reduce road accidents and promote a culture of discipline in Novaliches, Quezon City.
