Abstract

This study examined the causes and effects of violence against women and their children in Barangay 176-F, Caloocan City, as well as the perceived adequacy of community-based interventions and prevention measures. The study involved 76 respondents, including identified victims, barangay officials and employees, and personnel from the Women and Children Protection Desk and Police–Community Relations. The study used a quantitative descriptive research design. Data were collected from 76 respondents through a standardized and validated survey questionnaire concerning experiences and perceptions of violence against women and their children. The reported causes of violence against women and their children included alcohol and substance use, financial problems or unemployment, jealousy and infidelity, limited education, patriarchal beliefs or male-dominance norms, and a family history of violence. The findings indicate that violence against women and their children is both a personal and a broader social and criminological concern. Economic hardship and substance use may intensify domestic conflict and increase the risk of abuse.
