Abstract

This study examined the effect of curfew hours in Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City, with particular emphasis on the dimensions of awareness, social impact, and deterrence, as well as the challenges encountered in its implementation. The primary purpose of the study was to assess how the curfew ordinance influences community safety, youth behavior, and compliance, and to determine whether a significant difference exists among the three identified dimensions. The study tested the null hypothesis stating that there is no significant difference in the effect of curfew hours when respondents are grouped according to awareness, social impact, and deterrence. A descriptive quantitative research design was used in the study. The respondents consisted of fifty (50) individuals, comprising forty (40) residents of Barangay Pasong Tamo and ten (10) Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) members. Purposive sampling was used for selecting barangay officials, while stratified random sampling was applied to residents. Data were gathered through a researcher-made survey questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, ranking, and t-test as statistical tools. The findings revealed that awareness obtained the highest overall weighted mean and was verbally interpreted as Strongly Agreed, indicating that respondents were generally knowledgeable about curfew hours, rules, and objectives. The social impact of the curfew was also rated Strongly Agreed, showing positive effects on discipline, responsibility, and youth behavior, although some limitations on social interaction were noted. Meanwhile, deterrence was rated Agreed, suggesting that penalties and patrol presence moderately discourage curfew violations and nighttime disturbances. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant difference among awareness, social impact, and deterrence, with awareness emerging as the most influential factor in effective curfew implementation. The study concluded that curfew hours in Barangay Pasong Tamo are effective in promoting public safety, discipline, and community order. However, strengthening awareness campaigns, enhancing parental involvement, and standardizing enforcement procedures are essential to improve its effectiveness. Based on the findings, the AWARE–SAFE Program was proposed to enhance curfew implementation through improved awareness, welfare support, accountability, regulation, and enforcement.
