Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of the Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit (TMRU) in crime prevention through police visibility in Novaliches District, Quezon City. The TMRU, a specialized unit of the Philippine National Police, conducts rapid response and patrol operations in congested and crime-prone areas. The study assessed TMRU effectiveness in patrol frequency and coverage, visibility and deterrence, and community engagement, while identifying challenges affecting operations. A descriptive quantitative design was employed. Eighty respondents participated: 10 TMRU personnel, 10 barangay tanod, and 60 residents. Data were gathered via structured surveys measuring perceptions of TMRU effectiveness. Frequency and percentage distributions described respondent demographics. Weighted means determined effectiveness levels, and the Kruskal-Wallis H Test analyzed differences in assessments based on respondent profiles. Findings revealed that the TMRU was rated as effective in all measured areas. Regular and visible patrols increased police presence, enhanced residents’ sense of safety, and deterred crime. The unit also promoted community cooperation and improved communication between residents and law enforcement. However, challenges such as insufficient personnel and limited resources were noted, restricting full coverage of crime-prone areas. The study concluded that the TMRU significantly contributes to crime prevention through increased police visibility. Strengthening manpower, improving logistical support, and enhancing community-police coordination were recommended to further enhance operational effectiveness.
