Abstract

This study focuses on evaluating how barangay officials, particularly barangay tanods, operate and manage the existing CCTV systems in Barangay 175, Caloocan City. It aims to determine the effectiveness of the installed CCTV units in terms of clarity, angle, coverage, and overall quality, as well as their role in supporting police investigations and improving community safety. The research also examines common incidents such as theft, riots, and disturbances reported through blotter records and complaints, and identifies their possible root causes. The study uses a quantitative research design with purposive sampling. A total of 60 respondents will participate, composed of 40 local residents, 10 barangay officials, and 10 police officers. Data will be gathered to assess CCTV functionality, monitoring practices, maintenance procedures, and the presence of surveillance systems in selected establishments within the barangay. Findings are expected to show whether the current CCTV systems provide sufficient coverage and quality for effective surveillance and evidence gathering. The study will also reveal how regularly these systems are monitored and maintained and identify areas with limited or no CCTV installation that may affect crime detection and response. The results will provide insights into the importance of properly functioning CCTV systems in crime prevention, suspect tracking, and protection of properties, streets, and public spaces, especially in poorly lit areas. The study will recommend possible upgrades, improved monitoring strategies, and increased installation of CCTV units to enhance safety and assist law enforcement in solving cases.
