Abstract

This study investigated the fire prevention strategies implemented in Barangay General Tiburcio De Leon, Valenzuela City, with a specific focus on awareness seminars, community-based strategies, and inspection mechanisms. Using a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design, the study sought to determine the level of implementation of fire prevention strategies, ascertain the relationships among key variables, and identify the major strengths and challenges within current fire safety practices. Data were collected from fifty (50) purposively selected respondents composed of barangay residents, fire volunteers, and officers from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) through the administration of a structured questionnaire. The instrument was designed to measure perceptions and experiences regarding fire prevention awareness, community participation, inspection practices, and the overall effectiveness of existing fire safety campaigns. The findings show that community partnerships significantly enhanced fire safety awareness and preparedness among residents, improving the effectiveness of fire prevention efforts. Local stakeholders such as barangay officials, fire volunteers, and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel helped spread fire safety information and encouraged active participation in drills and seminars, which boosted community awareness and commitment to preventive practices. Collaborative efforts, including inspection strategies, reinforced compliance with fire safety standards. However, challenges remained, including insufficient funding, limited access to necessary fire safety equipment, and low community participation in some activities. Persistent unsafe household behaviors—especially faulty electrical wiring and improper storage of flammable materials—continue to pose serious fire risks. The study recommends increasing community involvement in fire safety activities like seminars, drills, and hazard reporting, improving access to funding and necessary equipment, and strengthening coordination among stakeholders to sustain effective fire prevention programs. It also advocates for active enforcement of fire safety ordinances and ongoing community inspections, and calls for future research to assess the long-term effectiveness of these community-based strategies.
