Abstract

This study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of the anti-illegal gambling operations implemented by Police Station 13 in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City. Specifically, it examined four key dimensions that influence the success of law enforcement efforts: police omnipresence, community engagement and operations, socio-economic status of residents, and inter-agency collaboration. Understanding how these factors contribute to or hinder the effectiveness of anti-illegal gambling initiatives is crucial in developing sustainable strategies that go beyond enforcement and address the root causes of illegal gambling. The study used a quantitative descriptive research design, which is appropriate for describing existing conditions, perceptions, and practices related to anti-illegal gambling operations. This design allowed the researcher to systematically collect numerical data and analyze trends and differences in respondents’ perceptions regarding the effectiveness of police interventions. A total of fifty (50) respondents participated in the study. These respondents were composed of three distinct groups: thirty (30) residents of Barangay Payatas, ten (10) barangay officials, and ten (10) police officers assigned to Police Station 13. The findings of the study revealed a generally positive perception of the anti-illegal gambling operations conducted by Police Station 13 in Barangay Payatas. In terms of police omnipresence, respondents strongly agreed that the visible presence of police officers significantly contributes to the reduction of illegal gambling activities. Regular foot and mobile patrols, police visibility during community events, and the accessibility of police personnel were perceived as effective deterrents against gambling-related offenses. Respondents noted that the presence of police officers increased their sense of security and discouraged individuals from engaging in illegal gambling activities. Overall, the study concludes that while the anti-illegal gambling operations in Barangay Payatas are effective, there is still room for improvement. The implementation of sustained police visibility, expanded community education initiatives, financial literacy programs, and stronger inter-agency partnerships is recommended to further reduce illegal gambling activities. These strategies may contribute not only to crime reduction but also to the promotion of long-term community development and public safety.
