Abstract

This study, titled “Awareness of the Implementation of Fire Safety in Commercial Establishments in Barangay 179, Caloocan City, ” examines the level of awareness and understanding of fire safety practices among individuals involved in commercial establishments within the community. Fire safety plays a crucial role in protecting lives, property, and economic activities, especially in urban areas where business establishments are often located close to residential spaces. The increasing number of commercial establishments in densely populated communities has raised concerns about the potential risks associated with fire hazards. Without proper fire prevention practices and emergency preparedness, these establishments may become highly vulnerable to fire incidents that could result in severe damage and loss. The study employed a quantitative descriptive research design to evaluate fire safety awareness in commercial establishments in Barangay 179, Caloocan City. A structured survey questionnaire was used to gather data on respondents’ knowledge and perceptions regarding fire safety, focusing on three key areas: fire prevention knowledge, establishment maintenance, and evacuation planning. The participants included 50 individuals: 30 commercial store staff, 15 residents, and 5 Bureau of Fire Protection personnel. Data analysis involved frequency counts, percentages, and weighted means to assess agreement levels among respondents regarding fire safety practices. The result indicates that people in Barangay 179, Caloocan City demonstrate complete knowledge about fire safety protocols which they follow in commercial buildings. The age group 25 to 31 which includes mostly married people who completed their education shows strong awareness about fire safety procedures. People who took the survey showed strong support for three main points which included the need to contact authorities during fires and the requirement for safety equipment like fire extinguishers and electrical inspections and the need for clear escape route markings. The findings show that participants demonstrate high understanding of fire safety procedures used in commercial spaces. The Bureau of Fire Protection's current fire safety programs and inspection procedures and public education initiatives lead to better public understanding of fire prevention and emergency response methods.
