Abstract
This study, titled “The Role of Barangay Public Safety Officers in the Implementation of Peace and Order in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, ” aimed to assess the effectiveness and contributions of Barangay Public Safety Officers (BPSOs) in maintaining peace and order within their community. Guided by the principles of Community Policing Theory and Social Responsibility Theory, the research examined how BPSOs perform their duties, their coordination with local authorities, and the challenges they face in enforcing laws and promoting safety. Employing a quantitative-descriptive research design, the study used a structured questionnaire administered to selected barangay officials, BPSOs, and residents of Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. The data were statistically analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and ranking to determine the level of effectiveness of BPSOs in various aspects such as crime prevention, conflict resolution, patrol visibility, and community engagement. Findings revealed that BPSOs play a significant role in sustaining peace and order through active patrolling, community mediation, and coordination with law enforcement agencies. However, issues such as inadequate training, lack of equipment, and limited manpower were identified as factors that hinder their full efficiency. The study concludes that enhancing training programs, improving logistical support, and strengthening community relations are essential to further empower BPSOs as frontliners in grassroots peacekeeping and local governance.
