Abstract

Juvenile delinquency was identified as a community concern in Barangay Punturin, Valenzuela City, including curfew violations and other risky activities affecting peace and order. Although barangay rules, preventive measures, and police patrols were in place, the study examined perceptions of whether these efforts adequately addressed youth-related concerns. The study used a quantitative survey design and states that respondents were selected through random sampling. The source methods section does not report the sample size, respondent groups, questionnaire content, validation, data-collection procedures, or statistical analyses. Most respondents were aged 42–49 (24%), 58% were male, and 82% had lived in Barangay Punturin for more than 10 years. Respondents rated feeling safer because of the presence of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team at a mean of 3.74, interpreted as “Very Effective.” Police presence received a mean of 3.76, also interpreted as “Very Effective.” Respectful treatment of minors without physical force received the highest mean of 3.88, interpreted as “Very Effective.” Barangay officials, police personnel, and residents generally rated community-policing components favorably in terms of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams, joint police patrols, and initial contact with children in conflict with the law. Respectful treatment without physical force obtained the highest rating. Overcrowding and poor living conditions were identified as the leading concern affecting community-policing efforts and juvenile-delinquency prevention.
