Abstract

Rapid urban development in Quezon City has raised concerns about historical sites that may be neglected, altered, or demolished. These landmarks represent local history and collective memory. This study examined heritage-preservation issues and the potential cultural, educational, and economic relevance of historical sites to the local community. The researchers reviewed books, academic articles, local-government documents, heritage laws, and city policies. They also examined examples of preserved and endangered sites in Quezon City and analyzed past surveys and public discussions concerning residents’ views and participation. The reviewed material indicated that historical landmarks may strengthen community identity, connect residents with local history, and support younger generations’ understanding of city development. Well-maintained heritage sites may also attract tourists, students, and researchers and create opportunities for small businesses, local guides, and cultural organizations. Identified barriers included limited funding, weak policy implementation, and low public awareness. Heritage preservation requires cooperation among government, schools, cultural organizations, and residents. Public awareness, heritage-sensitive urban planning, and community participation may help balance development and conservation and maintain meaningful connections between future generations and the city’s past.
