Abstract
This study examined the leadership competencies of executives in a private insurance company and their influence on governance efficiency, with innovation capability and stakeholder trust as mediating variables. Specifically, it assessed leadership competencies in terms of strategic direction and vision, ethical stewardship and integrity, and innovation and change management. It also evaluated governance efficiency across transparency and accountability, compliance responsiveness, and operational and risk management effectiveness. The study further determined the extent to which leadership competencies predict governance efficiency and whether innovation capability and stakeholder trust serve as mediating mechanisms. A Governance Efficiency Framework was proposed to enhance leadership-driven governance practices in the private insurance sector. A quantitative-descriptive design was employed using a validated survey questionnaire administered to 112 executives and managers from a private insurance company. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, regression analysis, and ANOVA to examine predictive and mediating relationships among variables. Findings revealed very high levels of leadership competencies, particularly in strategic direction, ethical integrity, and change management. Governance efficiency was likewise rated very high, with strong performance in transparency, accountability, and regulatory responsiveness. Innovation capability and stakeholder trust were also assessed as very high, reflecting effective digital innovation, organizational adaptability, and stakeholder confidence. Regression analysis demonstrated a strong and significant positive relationship between leadership competencies and governance efficiency (B = 0.737, β = 0.802, t = 14.098, p < .001), confirming that governance performance is substantially influenced by executive leadership behavior. ANOVA results further indicated that innovation capability (F = 17.775, p < .001) and stakeholder trust (F = 15.895, p < .001) significantly mediate the relationship between leadership competencies and governance efficiency. These findings highlight innovation and trust as critical pathways through which leadership translates into governance effectiveness. The study concludes that leadership-driven governance, reinforced by innovation capability and stakeholder trust, enhances transparency, ethical compliance, and organizational resilience. It recommends institutionalizing leadership development programs, innovation systems, and structured stakeholder engagement mechanisms as integral components of corporate governance strategy to sustain long-term performance and competitiveness in the private insurance sector.
