Abstract
This study investigated the influence of innovation capabilities, technological, product, market, and managerial, on international market performance in traditional family businesses in Guangdong, China, highlighting the tension between preserving cultural heritage and pursuing innovation-driven global expansion. Using a quantitative descriptive design, structured questionnaires were distributed to 460 employees across three Douchi-producing enterprises, with statistical analyses including descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression. Findings revealed generally negative employee perceptions of both innovation capabilities and international market performance, yet all four innovation dimensions showed significant positive correlations with global success. Market innovation emerged as the strongest predictor, followed by technological, product, and managerial innovation. Despite limitations in generalizability due to industry and cultural homogeneity, as well as the absence of longitudinal data and external stakeholder input, the study identified critical gaps in innovation resource allocation, strategic flexibility, and managerial responsiveness. Recommendations included establishing dedicated innovation departments, allocating targeted innovation funding, adopting data-driven management practices, and implementing rapid market response mechanisms. Enterprises were encouraged to foster employee engagement through structured training and feedback systems, while policymakers were advised to streamline innovation procedures, expand funding access, and reinforce international trade support.
