Abstract

Effective communication is fundamental to organizational performance, influencing productivity, morale, and leadership effectiveness. This study examines the role of communication turn-taking in conflict resolution and system leadership within organizations located in selected cities of Metro Manila. It investigates how structured and equitable participation in dialogue contributes to constructive conflict management and the development of system-oriented leadership practices. A qualitative research design was employed using semi-structured interviews with 30 participants across various organizational levels from three companies. Participants were purposively selected to capture diverse perspectives on communication practices. Data were analyzed through thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns related to turn-taking dynamics, conflict resolution processes, leadership behavior, and organizational culture. Findings revealed that effective turn-taking—characterized by active listening, balanced participation, and respectful dialogue—significantly enhances conflict resolution outcomes. Participants reported that structured communication reduces misunderstandings, fosters trust, and facilitates collaborative problem-solving. Turn-taking practices were also closely linked to system leadership, where leaders who model inclusive dialogue create psychologically safe environments that promote shared accountability. However, barriers such as hierarchical dominance, time pressure, and cultural norms were found to impede equitable participation. The study concludes that communication turn-taking is not merely procedural but a strategic component of organizational effectiveness. Skillful management of dialogue strengthens conflict resolution mechanisms and reinforces system leadership by promoting transparency, inclusion, and collective decision-making. Organizations are encouraged to invest in communication training, establish clear dialogue protocols, and address structural barriers that limit equitable participation. Strengthening turn-taking practices may lead to sustained improvements in leadership effectiveness and organizational performance.
