Abstract
This study examines the relationship between workplace communication and the well-being of catering staff within selected catering services in Caloocan City. In the fast-paced food service industry, effective internal communication is important for fostering employee satisfaction, engagement, and retention. Related literature shows how clear communication, constructive feedback, recognition, and effective conflict management may contribute to positive emotional state, strong workplace relationships, and enhanced job performance. However, some suggests that communication alone does not directly influence employee well-being, requiring to examine its relationship within specific organizational contexts. The Researchers utilized a descriptive-correlational research design. Using a researcher-constructed survey questionnaire data were gathered by distributing it to the forty (40) staff from three catering establishments, which are selected by purposive sampling to ensure their direct involvement in the operations. The majority of the respondents are aged 18–25, mostly male and mostly employed as waiters and part-time staff. Communication mainly occurs face-to-face, supported by telephone and letters/documents, reflecting operational demands. The results shows that while communication and staff well-being was rated satisfactory, still several issues were found, such as unclear instructions, lack of supervisor approachability, unfairness in recognition, and lack of conflict management procedures. There are also lower ratings for workplace relationship and feelings of achievement that indicates a lack in interpersonal support. Furthermore, the statistical analysis shows a positive but weak correlation between workplace communication and staff well-being, with r- values ranging from 0.26 to 0.39 and all p-values exceeding 0.05, indicating no significant relationship, thus accepting the null hypothesis. The study concludes by proposing a targeted retention plan that emphasized structured communication, regular meetings, fair feedback, recognition, and clear conflict management. Also enhancing aspects such as employee engagement, coordination, relationships, emotional well-being, and job satisfaction, thereby supporting retention and overall organizational effectiveness.
